It’s good to know some things never change. The KitchenAid Artisan KSM150PS looks very much like its grandmother of 40 years ago. But don’t let the looks fool you.
The classic styling aside, this 5-quart stand mixer is the most up-to-date powerhouse kitchen appliance you can imagine.
Huge power blends seamlessly with classic good looks, modern materials, and an array of superb features to make this kitchen aid one of the finest around.
The KSM150PS comes in a wide range of colors – black, white, red, onyx, blue, yellow, green, and many more as you can see at the image on your left side – so you can match your existing kitchen décor, too.
With so many stand mixers available, buying the best rated stand mixers in India 2020 is a frustrating task.
Power and Performance
The KSM150PS offers a full 325 watts of mixing power. So, who cares? You’re not interested in electrical specs, and why should you be?
Well, ever made that thick, thick, thick bread pudding and the mixer simply wouldn’t do the job? Right, thought so. The 10-speed performance means you can mix anything. And, since it’s driven by a direct-drive transmission it can really deliver all that power.
Throw a big chunk of fresh, refrigerator-cold butter into the bowl. Pour on a couple of cups of dry flour. That’s a challenge for any mixer. Tossing in a couple of eggs doesn’t help much, and even a cup of water will only go so far, until it’s blended in… which is the problem you had in the first place. The Artisan KSM150PS laughs at such problems.
You might not laugh, but you’ll definitely smile when exploring some of its other features.
At 23 lbs, you probably won’t want to put your stand mixer away and take it out every day. Fortunately, it’s so attractive you won’t need to. And, at 13 15/16″ high, 8 3/4″ wide, and 14 1/8″ deep, you don’t have to if you prefer not.
Spacious 5-Quart Mixing Bowl
The KitchenAid Artisan sports a good-looking, highly useful pouring shield to guide ingredients right where they belong. Dreamers might think they can just get a daughter or a husband to help out with a second pair of hands at those critical moments. Real-world-oriented chefs know that’s truly a pipe dream. What a great thing it is to have an ‘assistant’ in the kitchen who never complains!
You’ll have plenty of space to pour all those ingredients into, as well, thanks to a spacious 5-quart capacity, stainless steel bowl. Despite all the many advances in plastics over the years, there are still some traditional materials that simply can’t be beat. Stainless steel is one of them when it comes to a mixing bowl.
With a bowl that size, you can make over four loaves of bread, or nine dozen cookies, or tons and tons of tomato sauce for a huge get together. The bowl locks into place. So, unless kitty takes you by surprise and jumps up on the counter, you don’t have to worry about wobble or accidents causing you to splash ingredients around. The bowl also has a handy handle to make lifting out safe and easy.
The geometry of some mixers makes it really hard to get at every square inch of the bowl. The KSM150PS doesn’t have that problem. Right out the box it works great. But if you find that it isn’t doing what you want – say, because of an unusually shaped bowl you love to use – you can just make an easy twist to the beater adjustment screw to get the beater exactly where you need.
And, because the beater and the shaft rotate in opposite directions, you’re assured of getting a very good blend. The beater hits dozens of points around the bowl without any fuss, so you never need to struggle.
Accessories Galore: Flat Beater, Dough Hook and Wire Whip
The word “accessories” has two meanings, of course. One is: the list of things you use in addition to the mixer. The other is the list of tools supplied with the mixer that make your life easy without spending more money. The KitchenAid KSM150PS has plenty of the latter, so you need a lot fewer of the former.
The mixer comes with a flat beater (1), a very handy tool for mixing batter. No need to use anything else for cakes, cookies, and a whole range of other goodies.
The wire whip (2) is stiff and sturdy, so it won’t bend and will last for years. Since you’ll be making angel food cake, whipped cream, quiche, and a hundred other fluffy things, that’s good news.
The dough hook (3) makes preparing home-made bread – ummm… can’t you just smell it now? – a breeze. You can knead yeast and dough without getting hand fatigue for once.
The flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip all attach to the beater shaft with a simple twist. Easy!
More Accessories Galore
The KSM150PS also works with a whole array of superb optional accessories. There are accessories for each dish, so to speak.
Love to cook Italian? If you’re into making ravioli or fresh, restaurant-quality pasta consider the ravioli maker attachment and pasta roller set. The citrus juicer attachment turns your KitchenAid stand mixer into a citrus juicer while the ice cream maker attachment is an absolutely must-have for any lover of home-made ice cream. Want to make your own flour for whole wheat or multi-grain bread? The grain mill attachment is ideal for grinding those grains fresh at home.
Thorough and Easy Cleaning
Most of the parts you use are detachable and dishwasher safe, making it easy just to toss the majority into the dishwasher and forget about them. The beaters, attachments, the bowl, and the pouring shield all come off with ease. The all-metal body is easy to wipe off with a sponge and so well coated you never have to worry about encouraging rust.
The KitchenAid Artisan KSM150PS may resemble the one your grandmother used successfully for decades, and in some respects that’s a good thing. But it also has the latest materials, design, and tools to make your mixing tasks the least of your cooking problems.
To some eyes, the KitchenAid KP26M1X stand mixer is not a thing of beauty. Personally I think it’s gorgeous. Ok, maybe not so much for the big gun metal gray or onyx case. But for power and features, it’s impossible to beat.
Physical Size and Design, To Each Her Own
The KP26M1X comes in a range of colors so you can match your existing kitchen décor. Some might not be crazy about the look. It is a very stark looking beast but I think that’s just right for a professional stand mixer, though it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
But aesthetics aside, no one will have any reason to complain about the size and weight. This stand mixer tips the scales at 26 lbs, heavy enough to remain stable at all times, light enough to move around from time to time without too much effort. Wherever you want to move it to you won’t have too much trouble finding a place to put it.
Despite all that motive power and mixing capacity, it measures a moderate 11 1/4″ wide x 16 1/2″ high x 14 1/2″ deep, not tiny but not gargantuan either. You may not fit it under the shortest cabinets, but that extra height really comes in handy for making larger batches of batter.
Features and Performance – In a Word: Wow!
One reason for the superb utility of the KitchenAid Professional 600 Series is its massive 575 watt motor. I’m no electrician, but I know that’s enough to move a small mountain… of dough.
If you like to make batter that would tear your arm out of the socket if you had to hand mix it, this unit will stir it like melted butter. A set of all-steel gears inside ensures that it will last forever, just like your grandmother’s mixer has.
Fortunately, thanks to the 10-speed lever on the side, you can also make it behave like a gentle little kitten pushing a leaf around a puddle. If all you need to do is mix the kids Kool-Aid or whip up a bit of whipped cream, it can downshift to do those, too.
Soft Start and Locked Rotor Protection
There is an electronic speed sensor built in to ensure that the selected speed is maintained no matter what the beaters encounter. Thin as water or thick as cement, this gal keeps moving exactly as you chose. And, if the beaters encounter an obstruction that the motor truly can’t stir – a dropped spoon or whatever – the Locked Rotor Protection stops the mixer so the motor doesn’t burn out.
The Soft Start feature revs it up slowly, so you never have to worry about splashing your ingredients all over. There’s a nice side benefit to this feature. With a slow start, this mixer won’t puff flour into your face, so you don’t have to set it first on a slower speed then switch in the middle. That’s especially handy when your hands are a mess.
Generous 6-Quart Stainless Steel Bowl
Whatever you choose to make, you can make a lot of it, too, thanks to the generous 6-quart stainless steel bowl that comes with the mixer. Truthfully, “comes with” isn’t accurate because it doesn’t merely accompany the mixer, it is perfectly integrated with it.
The bowl has super steep sides to make splashing on the kitchen walls a thing of the past. Soft Start helps with that too, natch. The bowl also sports a nicely integrated handle to make it easy to put in, pull out, pour, or hold while washing. Even better, it snaps right in place into a seat that was made just for it and the bowl-lift design lets you raise or lower the bowl in the desired mixing position.
The steep sides aren’t the only reason everything will mix thoroughly, though. The Kitchenaid Professional 600 stand mixer is designed to ensure it hits every single point of that bowl. KitchenAid calls it “67 point planetary mixing action”. I call it: “fantastic”.
That 6-quart capacity also means you can create 8 loaves of bread or 8 lbs of mashed potatoes in a single go. If you’re planning a big dinner party, or just have a large family to feed, this container will make everything easier.
Highly Useful Accessories For Every Job
The KitchenAid Professional 600 comes with several highly useful accessories. Included are a pouring shield with an enlarged chute so you can mix ingredients efficiently and keep splash-out to a minimum, flat beater (1) , wire whip (2), and spiral dough hook (3).
The flat beater for normal to heavy mixtures is ideal for those thick cookie doughs you love to prepare. If you’re a big fan of homemade chocolate chip cookies – and who isn’t? – this tool will make that job go fast.
The wire whip for mixtures that need air incorporated is strong enough to take care of any fluffing job you want to tackle from a ton of egg whites to a barrel of angel food cake batter. You can stir up a delicate quiche recipe and then just detach the whip with a twist and rinse.
The PowerKnead spiral dough hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs can handle 20% more dough than previous versions. That works well in conjunction with the larger capacity bowl and more powerful motor. Even better, the design mimics actual hand action very well.
Many Optional Accessories
The optional KitchenAid FPPA mixer attachment pack with food grinder, slicer and shredder, and fruit and vegetable strainer is one of the many great add-ons. The grinder comes with two blades: coarse and fine. Turkey, chicken, and beef all surrender without a fight. The slicer lets you produce waffled carrot slices in a jiffy.
There’s even a juicer to let you prepare homemade lemonade without any fuss. The hinged hub cover and multipurpose attachment hub are designed to make installing them effortless. That design was well realized here. Even chefs with a touch of arthritis won’t struggle to snap them in place.
The KitchenAid KP26M1X may be overkill for those who use a stand mixer only occasionally. But for dedicated home chefs, it’s an outstanding tool. It’s no wonder that it is part of the lineup at Consumer Reports. They give it high marks and so do I. You will too.
